I'm not a huge fan of making cards. It's not that I don't like them, I just have a hard time putting it all together. Today I was inspired and made this little bird card using up paper and scraps. What a fun project!

This is for a friend, Kathy. If other people find it useful, that's cool.
I swear they are super easy and very forgiving if you mess up. Each one takes me about seven minutes.
Pattern:
Start with a chain of 6. Join to first chain with a slip stitch to make a ring. Chain 3
and double crochet into ring. This means that you are not going through a stitch but into the ring to make all your stitches. So the stitches float and you can slide them around.

Double crochet again into the ring. Chain 3 and then single crochet into the ring. This is a petal.
Here's the actual pattern:
Chain 3.
Double crochet.
Double crochet.
Chain 3.
Do this as many times as you want petals. I usually do 5.
Finish off with a slip stitch into the first stitch of the first Chain 3. Play.

Kim and I went out to Middle Fork to snap some photos of the new snow. It was warm out but there was a lot of ice hidden by the snow. I won't be mean and share all the photos of Kim "making snow angels" because of the ice. But I will share a photo that was exciting to finally get:
Every year I forget how amazing the shadows are in the winter. Discovering them again, year after year inspires me to take another look at the world. This seems to happen just when I need it most. While we do have a couple of signs of Spring coming, it doesn't feel like it's ever going to arrive. In the mean time, I'll enjoy the shadows while I have them. The stark landscape makes it easier to see the deer anyway. ;-)

I was hanging out in my crafty room making a page for a contest over at A Cherry on Top.
Topic: Love.
Subject: Little Kitty.
I take a lot of photos of Little Kitty. She's a constant companion and very good company so the photo opps are easy to come by. Where ever I go, there she is. She talks to me all the time, too. We just chat away the day. Doing yet another layout about her seemed a natural choice for the topic. Then I went to use my window space to take a photo of the layout and when I turned around, there she was. I *heart* her so much!

This is the last lunar eclipse for a couple of years. Nice that it was clear and early enough for the boys to take a peek. It's bitter cold so I was afraid that might camera might die but I managed to get a couple of good shots. The last two were taken in RAW mode. Pat on the back for that. Love the last one.

We finally had Orion's birthday party after re-scheduling during the well-below zero weather last weekend. The party took place at the new natural history museum at the U of I, the Spurlock Museum. We had a private tour of the place, which the kids all really thought was cool. They have Chinese clay soldiers, tons of Greek and Roman sculptures, and a real mummy. The later being the biggest hit with the kids. We followed the tour with an Egyptian scroll craft. Part of the goodie bags contained these cool Roman coins I found on ebay. It was a lot of fun and even the parents enjoyed themselves. I can't wait to go back!
